Dobrich PLC is a manufacturer of shoes concentrating mainly on children's shoes but also making men's boots and shoes. The company has a very high reputation in Bulgaria for quality and styles and also has a good reputation with its export customers who return with new orders regularly. Some of our traditional clients are the companies ANDRE, RENO, ELEFANTEN, ASPO, DELTA, NIKO, I.G.I. ETC. The company is currently a 70% privately owned public liability company (PLC). The company has only recently been privatised and restructuring and quality control have already been implemented.
The Dobrich children shoe factory has a 35 years of history and is the largest of its kind on the Balkan Peninsula as well as one of the largest in Central and Eastern Europe. It had been part for a 30 years period of the State Holding "Pirin" Company. Following the break up of state holding structures in most sectors of the economy it was re-incorporated as a single person public limited (joint stock) company with 100 % state ownership in 1993. Subject of activities as listed in the court register has been the manufacturing, trade (wholesale and retail) in shoes and shoe industry material in the country and abroad. The Dobrich AD is spread over the territory of 7 working sites in the Varna District (the north-east part of Bulgaria), all within a radius of 50 km. All factory units have an easy transport access, well-balanced and developed engineering and technical local infrastructure. The technology is fully integrated, with only leather, threads and shoe fittings entering, and all other shoe material manufactured in-house.
Output volumes have peaked as high as 6,000,000 pairs at 3 shifts in 1991-1992, with annual sales nearing 120 million DEM. After 1994 following general deterioration of macro-economic environment, company restructuring and shrinking both of local and Russian market output had dwindled to near 1 million pairs.
The company was privatised in 1998 with thirty percent being retained by the state for distribution to the workers and to offset possible restitution claims. The new owners will produce 2.5 million pairs of shoes per year.
Dobrich AD produces more than 300 models a year and has a Summer and Winter collection designed in its own design an technology department. This department has modern CAD equipment that allows the designers to produce the highest quality of shoes. The company is also able to manufacture any shoes form the clients designs or by replicating an existing product in our technology department. The products are exclusively made in leather with some non leather materials used in some of the models. All stages of production including uppers stitching, shoe production, moulded shoes and direct injection are carried out in our own factory to the highest standards. Many of our styles are produced in brightly coloured suede leathers and are attractive for both children and their parents.
