Consumexpo confirms the Positive Trend in Footwear

Once again, the Russian market lives up to expectations

The 24th Consumexpo, the International Exhibition for Consumer Goods held in Moscow from 17 to 20 January, was a great success. ANCI, Italy’s National Association of Footwear Makers, took over from the Foreign Trade Institute as organiser of the Italian pavilion in an event of particular interest to Italian enterprises, in which footwear was the market sector most strongly represented, along with leather goods and accessories.

51 Italian companies presented their 2012 Spring/Summer collections and previews of what’s in store for the 2012/2013 Autumn/Winter, obtaining great visibility in one of the most important markets for Italian footwear.

“Consumexpo has lived up to the Italian footwear industry’s expectations,” commented ANCI Chairman Cleto Sagripanti. “The 51 companies attending the exhibition met with highly qualified selected dealers to define the fine print of their last orders for the 2012 Spring/Summer collections and consolidate their business relations”.

The event is a great business opportunity confirming the positive trend of the market. Russia is Italy’s fourth biggest footwear customer, having regained the ground it lost in 2010, when it slipped down to fifth place. Performance in the first nine months of 2011 was particularly significant: +21.6% by value and +16.3% by volume. These increases brought total exports up to 424 million euro and 5.6 million pairs of shoes. The average price, 76.18 euro per pair, is one of the highest on export markets for Italian footwear, and grew by 4.5% between January and September 2011.

“As suggested by the successful trend of exports to Russia,” concludes Cleto Sagripanti, “the fact that a number of companies presented previews of the 2012-2013 Fall/Winter collections they will be unveiling at the MICAM ShoEvent in Milan in March is an important signal of the strength of Italian products on the Russian market”.
