German Shoemaker and Shoedesigner seeking Challenge
My name is Tom Upman, I am a 45 year old shoe designer from Germany. My practice includes 5 years experience of shoemaking and designing now. Before I started my career into shoemaking and shoe design I completed a career as a sculptor after having gained a degree in fine arts in 1987. I sold my sculptures to various institutions and private collectors throughout Germany. As I felt I wanted to take my interest in making shoes to a higher professional level I did a shoemaking course and City and Guild Exam at Tresham College of Further and Higher Education in Wellingborough / England. This course was highly practical and taught the entire process of shoemaking by doing on factory maschines and by hand. After the conclusion of this course in 2005 I was working as a patterncutter and shoe designer for different lady shoe companies in Malaysia as well as for a German Comfort Shoe Manufacturer in Germany and Portugal. In order to complete my professional profile I did a course in shoe design at "Moda Pelle Academy" in Milano / Italy. Following the course in Milano I went to work in Bangkok / Thailand where I developed a collection of ladies shoes and supervised the sample-making process. When designing shoes I usually start off with a variety of quick sketches in order to gain ideas and then develop the real design on the shell. I have a particular interest in a pronounced design of soles, heels as well as toe tips. My experience as a sculptor when I was working with a variety of materials came in very helpful for the execution of these details. All together I know about the inside of factories in Germany, Italy, England, Austria, Malaysia, India, Thailand and Portugal. Due to my professional education and experience I am thus in the position to produce shoes from its first steps up to the finish by hand as well as with machines in a large manufacturing process. Because of my participation in a variety of production processes (processing metal as well as producing shoes) I am also able to sensibly direct as well as motivate human potential. Currently I am designing and producing men's shoes by hand for private clients on a free lance basis to put my very own men's shoe design concepts into reality. My goal is to work for an innovative investor in men's shoe making. I am also addressing you in case you are a shoe factory owner. My future wife and I are both very flexible people. We are completely open as regards my location of work, no matter what country you are in. I am a fluent speaker of English. Apart from that I have a basic knowledge of Italian. Therefore I have a basis for other Latin languages (i.e. Spanish). Since I am a dedicated and hard working person who is able to plan and delegate work adequately and efficiently you can be positive that the design and production of casual men's shoes will be in very capable hands with me.
