Istanbul, Turkey - On the 27th May 2015, the Members of the European Confederation of the Footwear Industry (CEC) celebrated their General Assembly in Istanbul. Among the agenda was the unanimous election of a new President, the Italian Cleto Sagripanti, who takes over the CEC's Presidency headed by the French Jean-Pierre Renaudin.

Renaudin, also President of the French Footwear Federation (FFC), will be remembered as the European leader particularly devoted to encourage the dialogue between worldwide stakeholders, and a true believer of the need to preserve the "intelligence of the hand" in our European footwear industry. He leaves the CEC's Presidency to continue leading the French Footwear Federation that he never abandoned, and to dedicate himself to his other multiple passions like mentoring young entrepreneurs to make their dreams a reality.

“When I became CEC's president two-years ago, I was conscious that the new challenges that our footwear industry were facing could not only be solved at European level. We needed to continue going global and reinforcing multilateral dialogues”, explained Renaudin. "I am confident that the International Footwear Forum will become a new channel of dialogue between all our associations of around the world".

The recently elected President Cleto Sagripanti has a remarkable career in the footwear sector, both as a successful businessman and as leader of the largest European footwear association. As President of Assocalzaturifici, he stands out for his defence of Italian-made footwear and the implementation of innovative training programmes. "As CEC President I will indeed continue the international initiatives undertaken by Jean-Pierre, trying to reinforce the strength and unity of our European industries. In this relation, I will work for the EU support to re-shoring strategies, to promote market access on a level playing field, and to fight for a better regulatory environment for our SMEs", announced Sagripanti.

In a positive and enthusiastic atmosphere, the General Assembly concluded with Renaudin thanking the CEC Members " for the full support and collaboration provided during these two years. It is with great confidence that I leave the CEC Presidency in Cleto's hands. His experience and the programme presented is a first proof of his commitment to reinforce the role of the CEC in Brussels for the benefit of our European footwear companies".
