Plans for a second Footwear Technology Forum in North America during 2016 are now underway. If you are interested in presenting or becoming a sponsor at the 2016 North American Footwear Technology Forum contact Mary Shaw at 877 335 2261 ext 232 / mes@delcam.com

One of the main themes of the Forum is the ‘sharing of ideas’ through innovation and technology.  The Footwear Technology Forum is the only conference in the industry that allows collaborative thinking amongst competitor brands.  The reaction of delegates in Oregon was best expressed by Sarah Noll from Red Wing Shoe Company who said, “Overall, it was very informative and a great way to connect with people and companies in the industry.”

D’Wayne Edwards, founder of Pensole Footwear Design Academy, hosted the Footwear Technology Forum

D’Wayne Edwards, founder of Pensole Footwear Design Academy, said, “The foundation of Pensole first and foremost is to develop thinkers.  We want to bring students to the design academy that have a passion for footwear and are thinkers who can be challenged to elevate the footwear industry in the products that they imagine and create.  Delcam has the same mission; by introducing new technologies the company creates new ways of thinking for design and manufacturing for the footwear industry globally.  Having this forum shows the connectivity that can happen over the course of a couple days, with everybody sharing what they are doing in their world.  What Autodesk and Delcam have done with this conference is ground breaking.”

Chris Lawrie, Director of Autodesk Footwear Division, said, “The Footwear Technology Forum is the first event of its kind because it is bridging the gap between the creative world of design and this often scaring world of technology.  By bringing the two together, we are allowing designers to let in new ways of doing things, in ways that are not so scaring after all.”

The other main topic presented and discussed at the event was the possibility of using additive manufacturing or 3D printing, along with simulation, machining and robotics.  Presentations were given showing how to make the best of both the additive and subtractive approaches.  The partner alley, which was made up of different industry vendors, gave delegates further opportunities to question industry experts to learn more about technology and the future of making footwear.

The next Forum will take place from 13th to 15th October, 2015, in Milan, as a combined forum with Ortho Technology.  For more details go to www.footwear-events.com
